There are 18 species of this unusual plant. This is a very non cactus-like Cactus, as it looks more like a wild rose than a succulent. It is characterized by large, bright green, privet- like leaves and long spiny stems. Must be kept warm at all times or the leaves will drop. Generally rapid growing.

P. autumnalis -

Contains: tyramine.

P. corrugata -

Contains: tyramine, mescaline (.0005%), 3-4-dimethoxytyramine, 3-methoxytyramine.

Native to Northwestern Mexico.

P. cubensis -

Contains: tyramine.

P. godseffiana -

Contains: tyramine.

P. grandiflora -

Contains: tyramine, 3-methoxytyramine, B-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenethylamine.

P. guamacho -

Reported to contain unspecified alkaloids.

P. pititache -

Contains: tyramine, phenethylamine.

P. tampicana -

Contains: tyramine, mescaline (.001%), phenethylamine, 3-4-dimethoxyphenethylamine, B-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenethylamine.

Native to Tampico, Mexico.
