In the beginning was the Plant, and the Plant was green, and it was good. The plants held wisdom, the Plants held power, the Plants were our Gods. Since the impenetrable recesses of long forgotten time, our species has depended on Plants for sustenance, for shelter, as a healer and as a teacher. We again look back to the simpler times, when Man and Mother Earth were as one.

The last several years have witnessed a great resurgence in the number of people looking to plants as guides and as healers. Traditional beliefs have left many of us adrift, without any real purpose or understanding, without a future. We are forced to look beyond our childhood teachings, to turn away from the fears and half-truths of classical belief and religion. Fortunately, an enlightened few are always waiting for the chance to explore, to cast off the blinders that consign us to such a narrow view of existence, to push the bounds of established and accepted reason, to embrace alternate realities.

Not since ancient times, and again during the grand experiment of the 1960's has there been such widespread interest in expanding ones consciousness through the use of psychoactive plants. There has been renewed interest in the use of plants and fungi for their amazing, almost forgotten medicinal properties. As the more traditional shamanistic uses of these visionary plants becomes increasingly well known, more of the "industrial youth" will undoubtedly desire to tread those paths.
