From there I duplicated the image, flipped the duplication and joined it together with the original. Then I duplicated this new, double image, flipped and joined it as before to create this four-part symmetrical image. I understand now that this is called "tiling" but I didn't know that at the time. Next I Distorted the image by Rippling it twice; the first with a higher frequency than the second. Finally, I darkened the hue a bit using Curves.
It is important to keep in mind that at this point I'm just playing around. I have no idea where this is headed.
